What to eat to have a radiant glowing skin?

Who doesn’t want a youthful, radiant complexion? While tanning helps us get a warm, golden glow, we all know it’s not the best beauty approach to keep a heathy skin. On the long run small amounts of sun every day will make you look older than you really are by causing oxidative stress, cell damage, dark spots and unfortunately wrinkles. Get your daily 20 minutes of rays for vitamin D, and then be sure to apply a non-toxic sunscreen to protect your skin from damaging effects.

So to improve your skin and to get that healthy radiant glow, pack your diet with collagen, carotenoids and anti-oxidative foods. Find out how to eat your way to a glowing, radiant skin below!

1) Collagen

Bone Broth - Slow Cooked Tougher Cuts Of Meat - Collagen Supplements

What's the hype with collagen? First off, collagen is present in bones, muscles, skin and tendons. It's also responsible for giving the skin its strength and elasticity... In other words, it makes the skin plumper and firmer, which is exactly what we want.

Now, as we get older, the body produces less collagen and that's when the  wrinkles appear.  I'm sure you've noticed the latest trend of bone broth drinking disciples, chugging down gelatine desserts, and blending collagen powder into their morning coffee. Yeah, these are all ways to boost collagen intake and, amongst other things, increase skin health.

Adding collagen to your diet is a good way to ensure your body has what it needs for collagen production and repair. The thing is, the wrinkle reducing effect of collagen supplements have been attributed to their ability to stimulate your body to produce collagen on its own. Additionally, taking collagen may even promote the production of other proteins that help structure the skin including its elasticity.  Let's keep in mind that the body prioritizes which cells get fed first, and hair, skin, and nails are the last. So, you get it, applying skin care that boost collagen production helps, but won't do all the work...

Don't forget daily environmental aggressors like UV light and pollution also interfere with collagen production. That’s why adding collagen in your diet helps keep skin sagging and wrinkles away.

There you go, try adding a scoop of youth in your coffee, smoothie, tea, and dessert...

2) Foods That Boost Collagen

Leafy Greens (kale, parsley, etc) - Cruciferous (broccoli, cauliflower, etc) - Low-Fructose Citrus Fruits (lemons, limes)

Vitamin C is the key ingredient here. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that protects your skin from free radicals you encounter in your day. Free radicals are major skin-agers, so guarding against them is important!

Vitamin C helps make new collagen when it has the right amino acids from your diet and/or collagen supplement. Vitamin C is so important that you can’t make collagen without it.

Vitamin C-rich foods like leafy greens, citrus, and cruciferous vegetables protect your cells from sun overexposure and are said to diminish inflammation in the skin.

So pack up on greens, cruciferous and citrus fruits to get that radiant, glowing skin you deserve!

3) Carotenoids

Wild-Caught Salmon - Yellow & Orange Vegetables (sweet potatoes, carrots, squash)

Among the many skin-happy nutrients in vegetables are carotenoids, the bright yellow, orange, and red vegetables. They are powerful free radicals scavengers - in other words, they neutralize oxidation caused by free radicals which help combat signs of aging.

The dense colours found in carotenoids-rich food also act as a self-tanner. That's right, eating them will give your skin a healthy glow similar to a light tan... but without time spent in the sun.

So there you have it... Eating certain specific foods will go a long way in keeping your skin healthy, glowing and young.

Hope this help!
